My Story

As a young boy of 7, I remember watching my Dad making and repairing Jewellery at our home in Station road, Horsham. He was a Police dog handler at the time, but being a very creative skilled chap, his hobby soon blossomed, making a leap from Policing to retail Jewellery, opening a small sales are in Horshams department store, "Chart and Lawrence", now "Waterstones".

Customers could stand and watch him at work with his tools........the business with Mum was a great success, blossoming into an ever growing (and premesis changing) high street retail Jewellery business that offered repairs on site. Dad, Jeff, Mum, Helen and my sister, Paula with the help of many amazing full and part time staff provided a warm welcome at the pinnacle, "Warringtons Jewellers" 34 Carfax.

Beautiful handmade Jewellery with onsite expert repairs, commission and engraving.I think what really made the venture a great success was the principle of "doing right" by Warrington’s customers. There was a tangible honesty and integrity among the family owners and wonderful staff. Of course a living had to be made, but neither of my parents had ambitions to be either wealthy or possess expensive things. Character traits I am pleased to say I have inherited. I do not desire material wealth.

My ambitions are for emotional success first and foremost. Do the right thing is my life mantra - treat people always as you would like to be treated, the golden rule - or better still, surprise customers with higher than expected service!

My own Jewellery making career began at the tender age of 13 when Dad noticed I had patience and attention to detail when it came to using my hands on small creative projects..........I remember enjoying making airfix model kits of tanks, planes and soldiers, going to great lengths in making them look as realistic as possible, even to the extreme of "painting" tiny details like jacket buttons on small soldiers with a pin!

A jewellery workbench was installed in my bedroom, I had a sketchbook to draw out my designs, some silver wires and sheets, a drill, a saw, some files, cutters and pliers - I was away! I began making Rings, Earrings, Bracelets and Necklaces which Mum and Dad sold at an early incarnation of "Warrington's Jewellers" :- "Gold Dust, next but one to the delightful "Candy Box" opposite to the Bandstand. School leaving age - Dad suggested I go to Jewellery College with a view to working together at the family business.........Instead I pursued a science career, and then joined Sussex Police at 22yrs old. If only I had taken Dads advice and guidance, I could have started my professional Jewellery making career much earlier, for when I did leave the Police and join the family business, I never looked back…..I found my place in the world.

The next twenty five years were spent honing my skills, learning how to set Diamonds and work with Platinum: the ultimate, but trickiest of the precious metals. Always open and eager to learn how to best design, make and repair jewellery. Always wanting to give my customer the very best "product" and service. Caring about what I'm doing for each and every customer as if they were a family member or good friend. Nothing but the best – always!I'm going to blow my own trumpet a bit now, I sincerely apologise for sounding arrogant, but, I can hold my head high and say I have become a very skilled and capable jeweller specialising in the highest quality Diamond setting. I think it comes naturally with any skilled craftsperson who genuinely cares about doing his or her best job - every time.
