My Story
As a young boy of 7, I remember watching my Dad making and repairing Jewellery at our home in Station road, Horsham. I was fascinated to see his workbench, tools and processes. Dad was a Police Dog Handler Sergeant at the time, but being a very creative skilled man, his hobby blossomed ! Bravely with Mum, the leap from Policing to Jewellery was made, opening "Gem Designs" in Horsham's premiere department store, Chart and Lawrence, now Waterstones. Customers could watch very closely, Dad working with his tools and hot flame, making and repairing treasured Jewellery.
Later, Mum and Dad would open, "Gold Dust" next to Horsham's most loved news agent, "The Candy Box" opposite the Band Stand in Horsham's Carfax.
It was round about then at the age of 13 that I began Jewellery making.....Dad made me a work bench in my bedroom with the necessary tools for me to create original pieces in Sterling Silver. I even soldered with an oxygen gas torch ! I made Rings, Bracelets, Earrings and Necklaces which were sold at the shop in exchange for pocket money :)
Business was a great success, culminating in the hugely busy, "Warrington's Jewellers" 34 Carfax, always offering expert repairs and commissions on site, with a vast range of beautiful Jewellery to suit all budgets.
I think what really made the ventures such a success, was the principle of "doing right" by customers. There was a tangible honesty and integrity among the family owners and wonderful staff. Of course a living had to be made, but the balance was found.
"Do the right thing" has been my life mantra - treat people as you would like to be treated yourself :- the golden rule ! - or better still, surprise customers with better than expected service!
I am in my mid 50's now... Looking back, I have been patiently and carefully improving my skills, I learned how to set Diamonds and work with Platinum, the ultimate precious metal. Investing in specialist equipment along the way - keen to design, make and repair jewellery to the highest standards while offering great value for money. Caring about what I'm doing for every customer as if they were a family member or good friend.
I can hold my head high and say that I am a trustworthy highly skilled Jeweller.
I also love teaching my son, Jasper the art of Jewellery, hopefully he will continue the Family trade. He is off to a great start having already made his Mum 2 rings at the tender age of 7 !
We look forward to seeing you if you need Jewellery help
